How many gears are there on a typical bike used in the Tour de France?

Or are they single speed?

The guys who rode Shimano and Sram components had 20 — 2 in front and 10 in the back. Not all combinations work well and there is some overlap. The guys who rode Campagnolo super record had 22 — 2 in front and 11 in the back. The professionals in the TdF don’t ride triples in the front. Road triples are reserved for older, slower, and weaker guys like me.

Freddy Bichot came in at 178 he’s with AGR he’s a French rider. His time was 42′54” which put him 7′10” behind the leader. Hope that answers it for you
