Words cannot capture the delights of The Triplets of Belleville, an astonishing animated movie from the mind of French director Sylvain Chomet. In fact, there are only a few spoken sentences in the entire film; most of the soundtrack is a mix of squeaks, barks, and the jazzy music of Benoit Charest. A bicyclist is kidnapped from the Tour de France by mysterious gangsters; his grandmother travels t…

I haven’t bought a bike in, well…ever. Not since I was a kid have I had a bike and now my wife wants us to start going on bike rides as a way of getting out and exercising more. I’m on board with that.
So basically I need advice on bikes that are fairly cheap that will give us the most bang for our buck. We don’t want to spend very much because quite frankly, it isn’t as if we’re going to be doing tricks with the bike, going on rough trails or going up mountains. We’ll be mostly going around town and maybe some trails in the country. Nothing really adventurous.
It doesn’t matter to me where the bike comes from as long as it’ll probably hold up decently well to light riding and perhaps last a couple years at least. That’s all.
Under 200 bucks would be wonderful. Again, I realize I won’t be winning the Tour de France…I just want the most reliable and best I can get for cheap.
Thanks!
Fit is First. Get that right or you’ll never be comfortable on the bike. Go to your local bike shop for advice on this. Don’t have to buy anything there. Just look, try out, ask questions. You might, probably will, need them later for repairs and adjustments.
Check out the link for hybrid/comfort bikes close to your price range. Forge at Target seems to make pretty good bikes for the money. Avoid WM, KMart, etc.
